What Does The Bible Say About Homosexuality?

 

           

This topic should get me into a good deal of trouble, but I must tell the truth no matter what the popular opinion is. Homosexuality, what is it? Well, the Oxford Desk dictionary tells us that homosexuality is: “feeling or involving sexual attraction only to persons of the same sex” and a lesbian is defined as: “A woman who is homosexual.” Now, just from the dictionary definition this sounds unnatural. If you are a believer or not, let me make this perfectly clear: Homosexuality is wrong, unnatural, and a sin. God is a God of order, not confusion: “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints” (I Corinthians 14:33). Homosexuality is confusion in the mind; it would be a lie for a homosexual to say that they have never been attracted to the opposite gender. The purpose of this essay is to educate those who do not know what the Bible says about homosexuality, and to give the believer fire power  in a debate with an advocate of homosexuality (No need to get into a debate with someone who is convinced that they are right, you can really just pray for them).

 

For those of you who call yourselves Christian and believe that the Bible is contradiction after contradiction, allow me to demonstrate the problem with that argument. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Note that “word” is capitalized. This scripture blatantly says that the “Word was God”. Isn’t the Bible God’s word as well? If the word is God and God is not the author of confusion, why are there so many interpretations of his word? So it is apparent that God is not causing this confusion. Take a look at Colossians 2:5-9: “For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” If Christ (Jesus) is the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Father, Son, Holy Ghost—all three in one) then Jesus is God correct? With that in mind go to Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hopefully you can stay with me here) So if Jesus is God and Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and God is not the Author of confusion, and the Word is God—there should be only one denomination of Christianity, one school of thought, we should all be agreeing with one another. There should be no “Gay Christian alliance” there should be no Catholics, Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, or Apostolicism, there should be just one church all in one accord with God’s word.

 

That being established let us look at what the Bible says about homosexuality. “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with woman kind: it is abomination” (Leviticus 18:22). It is abomination, not “It can be an abomination” or “only if you are not in love it is an abomination,” it is an abomination no matter how you feel about that person. Further, Leviticus 20:13 “If a man life with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination, they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” Remember the Word is God, so there are no exceptions to these rules. Let us look at some New Testament examples: “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet” (Romans 1:26-27). The Bible says that homosexuality goes against the laws of nature, like a dog and a cat trying to have a baby—it makes little sense. I Corinthians 6:9 put male prostitutes in the same category as an idolator: “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind.” I Timothy 1:9-10 calls homosexual behavior lawless and disobedient: “Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine.” We could go on but I think that the point is clear: God created Man to be with woman, no exceptions, no rule changes even if we do live in a different era. God says in his word that “Nevertheless is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord” (I Corinthians 11:11).
