“Walk Worthy Of The Lord”

Colossians 1:9-13

9)           For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10)       That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11)       Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

12)       Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13)       Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Any consideration of the overall subject of “walking in victory” must include that all must “walk worthy of the Lord.” Our conduct must show that we deserve what the Lord has given us, not by means of human effort, but rather, by faith in Who the Lord is.

In verse 9 of our scripture text, the “knowledge” spoken of refers to “spiritual,” rather than “human” knowledge. You see, anything that is “human,” is without a “foundation,” while all that is spiritual, is “everlasting.” One of the “best” examples of this is the human being, who is “fine,” one minute, then “changed” the next.

We find ourselves displaying instability in our lives because of our unwillingness to accept what has already been established. How “foolish” of us, when we have no choice—if we are determined to operate in the truth.

Practically all that Man does, he does in a vain attempt to “control” his circumstances and surroundings. Therefore, he looks to “understand” what happens; to “make sense” of God. The problem is, if one ever believes that within him, he “understands” anything of God, he will have “missed” what God is saying.

Part of our problem is that we have been “fooled” into believing that we can accept only what “makes sense,” or is “real” to us. This would be all right if our “reality” were, in fact, reality. As human beings, what is “real” to us is real because of how we think and feel—and how we do these things is difficult for each of us. This, in effect, means that everyone develops his own “reality” and an individual reality is no reality at all.

“Walk (ing) worthy of the Lord” will be achieved by us only as we are willing to walk in His footsteps. Every day, our actions are dictated to us by our way of thinking. For example, when we believe that we are “right” and someone else is “wrong,” what do we do? Do we give in to the thoughts and attitudes of the flesh, or do we sacrifice our flesh to the Spirit? For far too many of us, it is the flesh that dictates to us. This is more tragic than one might think, for it is precisely because of the flesh that Jesus died.

The life of Jesus was given that we might be freed from our human minds and all of the burdens, preoccupation and turmoil inherent in them. In exchange, the Lord expects us to be grateful enough that whatever we do will be done to show Man that we “count Him (God) worthy of our trust.”

We tend to live in our own little “fantasy” world, where we ant to live our lives according to the “show and tell” mentality. The only problem is that we want to be responsible for the “tell” aspect, only. But, you see, in all that we do, we are called to show our devotion to and trust of God.

It is also required of us that we “walk worthy…” by entrusting our material possessions and affairs to the Lord. No matter what He has given us, be that money, love, understanding, grace, cooperation, happiness or anything else, we are to show His power by allowing Him to multiply it. After all, we can do nothing but “add” to what we have.

This even applies to the pursuit of education. Whereas we do not believe (as did the preachers of old) that “You don’t need an education,” we do know that while a secular education will “open doors” (allowing one “access” to a multitude of people), it will teach one nothing of the Lord. This is a direct illustration of the principle that though we can “add” to ourselves, we cannot multiply.

The “answers” to life’s “mysteries”; the “solutions” to its “problems”. Our Only Hope lies in salvation. Only “absence of flesh” will allow us to “walk worthy of the Lord.” There is no such thing as “quietness of flesh” or “striving of flesh.” Anything short of “death” means sure death of us.

The Church world is being required to accept that salvation is nothing short of accepting everything that is spiritual. If this is one’s state, there is no question but that he is “saved,” for he will be “absent of flesh” and therefore, not susceptible to sin.” You see, because the Spirit does not desire sensual fulfillment, its desires cannot and will not be fulfilled through fleshly means.

Too many of those who are “sensual,” believe that their zeal, zest for life, and “fulfillment” are based upon the very fact that they are “sensual.” The truly “enlightened,” however, know that the “energy of life” is derived from the “might” of the “power of God”—and that that Power (over us) is solely based upon what we will accept of Him.
